Ehh, I don't think of HYPP as a death sentence. I probably wouldn't buy one, but the majority of the reasoning in that is that I'd be looking for either a WP or HUS horse, which probably wouldn't be Impressive bred. I'm honestly not sure the disease alone would be the deal breaker, it would definitely depend on the horse and my boarding/care situation, among other things. I wouldn't buy a HYPP horse unless I were 100% prepared to deal with it. I also think there is quite a bit of propaganda out there against N/H horses.

That said, I'm not justifying HYPP in any fashion- I hate that it exists and think that registration of N/H horses needs to stop, and N/H studs need to be gelded or registration pulled, and mares to not have offspring eligible for registration. In all breeds- not just Quarter horses. I just don't think I would pass on a horse who was 100% perfect for me just because he was N/H, at least if I were in the situation to handle it. H/H I would definitely pass on.
