I don't own a N/H horse, but there are two of them currently at my barn. I've known the gelding for 7 years and the mare several months. Both are on a diet for HYPP and live very normal lives as mainly trail horses. I have and still would ride both. If I were shopping I would not buy a N/H horse for myself, unless it was one of the two I'm already attached to...

The gelding has had 3 attacks that I know of in those 7 years. Two of those were in the year before his diet was properly managed, one in the other six years. The attacks were really weird looking... they were mild so the horse wasn't very distressed, but his muscles rippled under his skin like there was a bug there and he couldn't stop twitching... very strange.
