Unless it's required I refuse to write artist statements for any of the stuff I do and when viewing art I prefer not to read the artist statements provided. That said, I have written two.........on two separate occasions I had a painting I wanted to put in a show, BUT the shows were in no way related to the work I was hoping to display. Each piece was required to have a statement relating it to the show. SO......I MADE the piece fit the show by my artist statement. Yep, I lied......and it worked. Both pieces got in the shows and everyone was "amazed" at the "deep and powerful meaning" of the pieces I submitted. Mine was BS and I know of several others that were to.......there are far more artists who think explaining their work is a load of BS than there are people who take themselves seriously.

As far as I'm concerned I just make pretty pictures using things I find interesting. In the end......that's all art is.
