Ive met only a couple cuddly mares.

There was this aloof bitchy mare at the TB breeding barn I worked at. I was warned that she was a malicious animal who would bite and kick on purpose. She always had her ears pinned and she didn't like to be groomed. But I kept catching glimpses of terror and deadness in her nasty looks. I spent extra time with her, and after a while she absolutely fell in love with me. She was one of those in your pocket horses!!! She was headshy for everyone but me. I was the only person she allowed near her babies after their births. When the mane puller tried to do her mane one day, Val stuck at her and broke her foot. She got out of the stall ASAP and I ran in there because I knew the farm owner would come in and beat the snot out of her in a minute. She must have known that she was in for it, because she ran up to me and shoved her head into my chest, which she'd never done before. Poor girl had probably been beaten within an inch of her life in the past. She was so distrusting of people and yet SO desperate for love and attention and someone to trust . Once I was careless and I allowed her to bend her head for hay while I was still fluffing it out. She jerked her head up for some reason and cracked me in the jaw, but she thought I had hit her. She went and cowered in the corner, which again, she had never done before. Just was absolutely horrified that *I* had struck her. I spent some extra time petting her. I wish I could have had a hand in that horse's future. I have no idea where she is now. She's probably long since been slaughtered. Her babies weren't doing well at the track and her owner simply stopped paying board. I befriended several "resident bitches" but none of them completely transformed their personalities the way she did. Her name was Valued Associate if any JC members want to take pity on me and look her up

It's an interesting way of showing the city slickers that nuggets don't grow on trees though. I kinda think it's funny. OMG!!! There's CHICKEN in my CHICKEN McNUGGETS!
