Scout is a mix of both. She will, for the most part, ignore you. However, as soon as you start messing with another horse or ignoring her, she is in your face. She's not really a lovey dovey horse but she tries her heart out for me. IME, geldings will generally work for anyone whereas you have to work a tad harder with a mare.

The moment that you stop being an advocate for your horse(s) is the precise moment when you should not be the one responsible for them.
