I am a TOTAL mare person.
I just find geldings generally TOO clingy and babyish.

All my mares are affectionate, but they also have an independent side to them as well where they're not going to follow on your heels, or whinny for you at 5am (so glad my mom's gelding is sold).

Lani is affectionate in the way that she likes to be with you and likes to be petted, but she can be standoffish and demanding at times as well.
Lizzy's the same, although a little bit quieter minded and more sucky.
Nike's boss mare with other horses, but with people she is a huge puppy dog. Watches me constantly and although she's very respectful, just loves to be loved on or even just around me. She can get sulky though if she gets in trouble or if I do something she doesn't like.
Heidi is pretty gelding-like in personality. She's a deadhead, and prefers the company of people rather than other horses. There is nothing she loves more than to be with you. She loves it when you just hug and hold her head, scratch her face, etc. She'll stand there with her head down by my knees and her ears out to the sides as long as I'm touching her.
This. I like my mares. They are fun, full of personality, they are thinkers and yet the are sticklers for hierarchy and herd dynamics. My girls all whinny for/at me whenever I walk out my front door. They LOVE to be groomed and messed with. But, they are also just fine left to their own devices and left to entertain themselves.

You all can have your geldings. Ill take my girls. Thanks. hehe
