We have one cranky old mare who gives you a suspicious look anytime you walk up to her, and will come up with her ears pinned back (until you prove you have a cookie, then she becomes somewhat sweeter). She's always had an independent nature to her (you'd swear she was part mustang if you didn't know any better).

Our other mare is very friendly. It's always her and Nova that meet you at the gate first. She also calls to you to let you know you're late feeding dinner (and by calls, I mean screeches in a very demanding tone). She's definitely not as moochy as Nova, but she still likes her share of attention.

I had a past mare that was just a sweetheart. She would leave the other horses to come up to get caught (of course, she often got goodies when she got caught, so I bet that helped). She wasn't an in-your-face kind of horse, but I think she enjoyed having someone pay attention to her. She was an OTTB, was raced a couple times, then was put out to pasture and stayed there for about 5-6 years. The lady I bought her from actually got her as part of the farm when she bought it - she was in no way neglected, but she wasn't the favourite, so was put on the backburner.

Our morgan gelding is sweet, but he's not a total love. He'll sniff (politely) your pockets for treats, but otherwise is content to just hang out beside you if caught - if not, he wanders off once the treats are gone. Nova on the other hand, is the typical nosey, in-your-face gelding. His favourite thing to do when he's bored is to lick (hands mostly, but he did migrate up to licking my entire arm when he was being braided this summer). He also likes to stand very close and pretty much be the centre of attention if at all possible. And he has a darling little nicker when he's waiting to be fed. (He's cute and knows it.)
