When duck is cooked right, it is rich, flavorful, delicious, and not really greasy at all. If you have to compare it to something, it's not dissimilar from an oddly textured beef. It goes better with a sweet side dish or sauce, imho.

When it's wrong, it's greasy, fatty and nearly inedible. And it's not a forgiving meat to cook, so I think many people's first experiences with it are not positive.
