We always take a jerry of our own water, just in case we pull up somewhere where this is no water, or if the horse/s decide to turn their nose up at 'OMG different water'.

Extra halters and leads. Rope. Never know when you might need it.

For me, whips (I have one horse that is difficult to load, some days he can be encouraged with the lead rope, other days with a dressage whip, some days with a lunge whip. He is a bit weird which method he prefers on which day of the week so I take the lot just to be sure). And anything else specific to an individual horse.

Yup yup to the first aid kit. Electrolytes etc for travelling.

In the states do you ever have problems with feed crossing state borders? That's someone to consider here, whether you can cross the border with your feed or have it confiscated. Met a couple of people that have been caught out with that!

And definitely check through your routes really carefully. And try to find out what the roads are like don't just trust a GPS! One time travelling through the hills we rang someone to ask what the best route was. Got their husband and he told us to go A - B - C. Turns out that WAS the shortest route...unfortunately not such a comfy road for a horsefloat! We were later told, no no no NEVER got that way with a horse go A - D - E -C...a bit longer but a much easier road.

Same thing happened to travellers the other day (our pony club offers stabling for travellers and we're in a real major crossroads in the middle of nowhere so get to meet lots of people travelling through, always fun) their GPS told them to come this lovely scenic route through the hills and up and down and around and through all this little towns...when they could have kept going for a few more kms at the start, hit the highway and been cruising in a straight line for the whole two hours lol.
