I not a fan of chasing the elusive cans, it is really hard on their joints . But your little fuglypinto might make a decent 4-H horse where he could dabble in all kinds of fun little show classes. Or stick to the playdays and whatnot, if you are going to show (especially low key) it really should be about having fun. I have a fuglypinto too, she was fine as a weanling through 2 y/o and then she has developed some hock problems all on her own and is now a crippled fuglypinto. We need to do some x-rays to see if she is going to be fused hocks fuglypinto and capable of anything productive, or if she is going to be a lawnmower.
