College is hands on, you might be thinking about University.

College is a way of working hands on as well as in the classroom to understand how things work as well as why they work.

University is all int he books, with very little hands on training.
They will read much further in depth however, will never work on the actual thing.

a great example that someone mentioned to be once was this.

College is given the car engine to look at take apart and expects you to be able to rebuild it.

University gives the book to read about rebuilding the engine and expects you to be able to do it.

I didn't disagree that the one rein didn't work. I've done it before myself when my paint took off on me. So when in doubt use the rein.

I'm not even old enough to be able to brag about years of riding. However, I am working with several coaches which all have they're share of experience in riding, showing, coaching, training... ect..

I don't really see much in years of being around horses unless there's papers that show recognition.

Showing awards at higher levels. Completed rider levels, coaching levels... all that fun stuff..

I've seen people that have been around horses for 50 years, and they have no a clue wtf they are doing.

I still have an ambition to learn, and I will continue riding in the ways I was taught because they work for me.
The one thing I'm working on the most right now is making myself a better rider so I can get my coaching levels and eventually be able to manage a stable, organize shows and judge.

Until then, I guess I can't compare to the 40 years of Training , or the 25 years of Dressage.
