None of these emails were sent until after the trade. Before she seemed alright.. I knew she was on disability, but I am all for hippotherapy. She told me she is a licenced trainer at our local bush track, and was going for her license at hastings, and needed a gelding to use, since they would not accept mares for the liability on colt races. ( I am not a racetrack person, but it makes sense) She told me that is why she wanted to trade. She said the bush track let her use the spayed mare, but the larger track wouldnt allow it. I knew she had owned the mare for years and years.. so in theory if trading one for the other, he should have been fine. She drives a brand new truck too.
This whole thing is insane. She made mistakes, and you made mistakes. Both of you. It ALL sounds sketchy and I'd watch it from all sides with caution. You've learned your lesson as far as this goes, and can do better in the future. Watch for flags. As for the girl, she needs to ask questions BEFORE buying/trading.

This ^^ thing you posted though.... Unless Hastings is different than oh say most other racetracks, I don't think they require you ride a gelding. I've never heard that. A lot of stud horses are okay with mares, and a lot of mares are okay with studs. I used a mare for one year without problems, she never acted mare-ish towards horses. And actually, in that entire period of ponying over 300 stallions - not ONE attempted to mount her or act studdish more than they would have with a gelding. And I know PLENTY of girls that still use mares in SEVERAL different states/racetracks. One girl here uses a 14.2 hand mare daily, and takes a lot of crappy horses (including studs/colts) and has never had a problem. But, yea, maybe Hastings is different....? [Doubt it.]

I have no idea how it works, its what she told me the day we first met. She also told me she was trying to get the rules changed so she could race horses in a bitless bridle. (Nurtural brand ones)

I didnt ask, it made sense to me, at least from a safety point, not only a legal one. I had told her everything known about the horse in the first 40 emails, then she came to look at board.. then called me asking to trade for her horse.  That should have been the end of it. I am not responsible to give her random amounts of money after. Thats insane!

Did anyone else notice the backwords, no spaced crypt code message at the bottom of the one email.. thats when I really started to worry what kind of person I was dealing with. I just dont get what her problem is, or why she would meat him.. he was an honest to god good horse. Why not advertise him? or offer him back?
