I've never like the term "tolerance". It sais "Tolerate" which... I dunno. Doesn't fit how I feel. I don't "Tolorate" Blacks. I don't "tolorate" gays. I don't "Tolorate' people of other belief systems than my own.
I try to see people as individuals, rather than lump them in groups. I will ask questions about things I don't know, rather than jump to conclusions. If I don't agree with something, but it's not hurting anyone, I leave it be. If I don't no agree with something but I believe it is creating harm, I am going to question/debate it.
On an individual basis. Not as a group.
For example, I won't go up to my friend moderate Muslim friend from Bangladesh and chew her out about suicide bombers. But If I ever met someone who sympathized with that act, I would rip them a new one.
I have a hard time with generalized statements, becasue I think when we lose our ability to judge situations on an individual basis, there is much collateral damage. THat goes for everything. "Bible thumping Christians" offends me as much as "Those Cheap Jews" or "Those crazy Muslims".
Maybe it's because I don't consider myself to fit into the norm of my demographic, and get insulted when people categorize me as such
