I'm not just looking for a horse, I wanted my little Sonball back. I guess this'll teach me to sell the ones I like. Injury to insult, I think my mare might have fractured my collarbone this morning.

Drop it and get away as fast as you can. Unreasonable contract for darn sure and she is trying to milk you. May even say if you do not come up with the money she has another buyer. IF she does tell her ' great hope he has a good home' and then hang up.

I get the feeling that the seller is thinking "Oh, she REALLY wants this horse. I can jack up the payments and she will go for it because she wants him so bad!" Show her you are willing to walk away (but don't let her know there will be tears). Amend the contract and send it back to her with a note saying. "This is what I can do. Take it or leave it. We discussed this on the phone, and I told you straight up what I could afford. I would really like to have the horse, but if these terms won't work for you, then unfortunately, I am going to have to walk away. Hopefully, I can gather the cash over the next few months and be able to buy him outright." You must be willing to walk away though and make sure she KNOWS you are willing to walk away. Chances are, she will come around and agree to all or most of your terms. Good luck and let us know how you fare.
I completely 100% agree with this... better to take a gamble as to whether he'll still be there in a few months when you have the money, than to gamble with getting played with and ripped off in the meantime.
