I've never had a horse colic on me, so bear with me. We went out front earlier to get in the car, and Buddy was lying down in the pasture. I've rarely
seen him down, so I told Jason i was going to go snuggle him a minute, since lying down horses are so very appealing. Unlike normal, he didn't move. He
just laid there for 20 min, looking around to his belly, occasionally giving one or two tiny rolls, or lying flat out on the grass moaning. I got him up, and
he's just standing out there staring into space. He's not grazing, which is very unusual, but then I did just feed him a bit ago... he has not been
down again, and he's pooped twice (small ones) where he had his tail up and looking like he was trying to poop more for a few mins. The only movement
I've seen out of him is lowering his head to knock off the flies, and a lot of tail swishing. He's not lying down or rolling anymore, but he is looking
really depressed and pitiful. Normally he grazes like a fiend, and wanders all over the pasture. I'm calling the vet as soon as they stop having a busy
signal (GRRR) but beyond that, what can I do? Should I walk him?
This is another first for me. I had a filly awhile ago who colicked, but she was at a boarding stable at the time and I never saw any of it until after the vet left.
