I'm sure there's someone with far more experience in jumping training than me, as I'm usually more flatwork-y!
We've started to 'relearn' jumping.
Dun mare is a great jumper. She's BSJA graded, successful, plenty of winnings and I know she can jump 4 foot without really trying.
On the other hand, we're now doing 1'6 - 2' cross poles.
She knows she can do it and as soon as she sees the jump, head goes in the air, and rushes.
Flies over it, runs some more.
Any tips on work to slow/calm her down? I'm jumping in a large field with a lot of space, as although we've got halting after the jump or a downwards transition a lot better, as a just-in-case I'd rather I had options, heh.
Extra info:
- She's fine in the arena/field with flatwork
- I don't want her in a stronger bit, martingale etc, she's gotta learn to work through this
- At the moment, she can jump one from trot and then come back to me quite well. I don't want to be introducing more that one jump at a time (double/bounce/combination/triple, etc) yet.
- She's very responsive to the seat but loses it a few strides before the fence.
- It is not a tack/teeth/back etc problem.
- Anything smaller and she will not take it seriously. I'm also chickenshit *blushes* so I don't want to whack the fences up to 4 foot and say do it seriously or get hurt. And also coz I doubt that'd work.
- To be even more picky, I want to keep her great 'forwards' attitude, just calm it a little.
Thanks
