A lady who boards at the barn where I do is wanting to give her 16 year old paint mare away. This is a super nice, well bred mare. The problem is she foundered
(8 degrees in right front) last fall. The hoof has grown out and she's mostly sound. She'll have stiff days and she does better when she's ridden
in boots. The lady just bought her a new pair of Renegades and will give those with the mare. The mare requires a low NSC feed and hay and monthly farrier
care. The lady is in a really ugly situation at home and needs to be able to leave at the drop of a hat. That means the mare needs a new home. The mare is
broke and has wp type movement. She shouldn't be bred due to her feet.
So what're the rules for giving a horse away? What kind of stipulations can you reasonably put on the new owner? This lady will NOT be able to take the horse back if things don't work out. Does she just have to give her away and hope for the best? I honestly don't know what's reasonable. I've never given one away.
Thanks!!
