So I posted in the confirmation area about my new free horse. I answered one of those Free ads just to see what it was. I brought home the horse above. He is a Registared Morgan,Trustworthy is his name, we call him Oliver, Foal April 14 1996 gelded 10/22/97 Reg # 138971 Out of Fiddlers Trustee and Flashdancer Deer run command and Waseeka's in Command, fiddlers Moonglow on sire side. Dame side has Legacys viking, Superb Creation. Leaderleen. I dont know morgan breeding so I dont know whats good or not. Took 2 hours, a backwards head over heels flip (the horse not me, EVERYONE IS OK ESPECIALLY OLIVER) and a different trailer to get him home. 15HH.
This is what I was told about him:
Hasnt been ridden in almost 2 years. Had 60 days with a trainer and that was the last he was ridden. Excellent ground manners.
She lunged him and he was all hyper and freeky about it although he did move well. She was VERY handy with the lunge whip. Personally she was very nice and knowledgeable, I wish I was that knowledgeable. But for me a little to free with the lunge whip and she kept putting a chain over his nose and at one point under his lip. It appeared to me while she was assertive she was afraid of the horse. Once we got him in the trailer it was non stop screaming and pounding. When we got home and opened the door he and the floor were dripping wet with sweat. He calmly exited the trailer with no hassles at all. Kind of like he was saying ..., "Drama? What Drama?"
He spent an hour in the round pen and rolled around in the sand a bit before we brought him out and tried to hose him off. Monster hose but after we got his feet wet, literally, he got into the grove and even drank from the hose. We put him in a small paddock to graze by himself. He pranced around with his tail up and made a lot of noise for about an hour and then settled down and grazed for the night.
This morning he rushed my barn manager and stomped on her foot trying to get into the barn for breakfast. By the time I arrived he was back in the paddock. I decided to lunge him a bit and handle him see if he was better than yesterday. I took him in to the covered ring and he lunged like a dream with out a lunge whip. If I picked up the lunge whip he went like crazy, bucking and snorting. So I left it at the door. We lunged for about 10 minutes and I decided to see what he would do with a saddle.
I was not prepared for what happened.
I have a new english saddle that I bought and it doesnt fit our other horses so I decided to try him with that because if it would go bad He was less likely to hurt himself or a good saddle plus its really light and I could get it up easy with one hand, ya know. Well he snorted at the pad but he let me put it on his back and after about 10 minutes of me fiddling around and moving it and what not I placed the saddle. He fell asleep so I quitely got a girth and slowly chinched him up. Didnt even flinch. So I lunged him for about 5 minutes at a walk and trot. Nothing. Being braved I went and got a snaffle bridle and I bridled him up... easy he even held his mouth open while I get everything adjusted and set right. I lunged him for about 5 minutes and he was fine so....
I carefully got on his back!
He walked troted cantered and at least 1 gate I could recognise and backed like a dream horse. He even set up when I halted him in the center of the ring. That by the way is SOOOOOO cool!! We worked for about 1 1/2 hours from the time I started lunging him until I took the saddle off. Never a miss step or upset behavior. I only rode him for about 20 minutes. I figured better end on a good note.
I can not for the life of me figure out why this woman just gave him away. She told me she had a bad back and just could not handle him much less ride him. I can say the two of them didnt like each other. She has his 1/2 brother that she rides.
I am so happy with my pretty pony!! Ill get more pictures tomorrow.
