| I got laid off my waitressing job (which I knew was seasonal when I hired on but I needed the work)
on December 23rd, and have been looking for work since. Very little in the classifieds offer the pay that I really need to justify travelling 45 minutes
each way to work, while still offering me a job that doesn't suck the soul out of me (I did the call center route for AGES, I have had just about
enough!).
I've applied for a few little things here and there that would tide me over and might make good work for me. Someone mentioned a few weeks ago that they are always looking for TA's/tutors at our local school but I had never seen anything listed so had no idea how to even begin looking at that kind of a job. So I found a listing today! It would be at one of two schools that is about 30 minutes drive for me, which is fine, because the pay is really fair. I love kids and working with kids and can see this as something I would enjoy doing and doing long term. So I sent a resume and cover letter, and am crossing my fingers now. I would love to be able to go on unemployment (I have enough hours to feasibly go on it until the restaurant opens again in June, but I can't really afford the measly money that it offers) but I can't realistically do that, so I need SOMETHING, and this sounds a far sight better than janitorial or call center work, it would be close to home, I would be working in an environment that I am familiar with and comfortable in as I did work at one of the schools in grade 12 for my coop, "teaching" a class of 7th graders. |
