Okay my daughters sweetie of a gelding under saddle or in hand turned into a monster in his stall today. Let me preface this with saying he's been unriden
since Friday due to a hoof abscess, they were kept in Fri. night due to weather and yesterday he was miserable could barely stand. Today he felt better but was
a complete monster but not to us. He's in a CBS barn with full walls between him and the mares on each side the only way that can barely reach each other
is if he leans out his stall door or window at the same time the other horse is leaning toward him.
So today we went out to check on him, took him out of his stall he's walking a million times better now (yesterday he was stumbling and falling not wanting to put weight on his front right) so my daughter hand walked him he was an angel. We tied him to the tie off in his stall (it's used when the cross ties are full so we can tack there if need be) to groom him as I thought he'd be more comfortable then on the concrete floor of the isle or wash racks. He was an angel for grooming just his normal good self. After we were all done we were giving him a few treats as we always do over the stall "window". The mare on the right of him stuck her head out her window she wasn't even looking at him or us suddenly he pinned his ears and flew across his stall thrust his head over the door and was nashing his teeth at her. Okay that was over about 5-10 min's later we are done packing up his stuff and about to leave. My daughter stops by his stall one more time on the way out, the pony mare in the stall to the left had been laying down and when my daughter walked up to Caspers stall she got up and put her head as far over her door as possible (which isn't much) Casper gave two big "cow" kicks to the CBS wall that the pony mare was on the other side of.
He's NEVER acted like this before in the past month we've had him up here. I called my friends who used to own them and they have never seen him be like that. He is very un social with other horses when not under saddle or in hand. He gets private turn out but will still fight over the fence if given the chance. Though we've never seen him act like this in his stall.
The only things that have changed is no riding in two days, Sat night only turn out due to weather on Friday night. The schedule for feeding has changed a bit as the BO's husband was hurt so she's doing everything now. Am feeding is a bit earlier and PM feeding is the same time as before. I did notice he didn't have any hay left like he normally does at the time we were there today and husband of BO always walks the isle giving treats so he's been without those since Friday.
Any ideas what could be his problem, I also plan to speak to BO/trainer but won't be able to until Tuesday.
