So the new skinny mare is starting to look REALLY good! She is ready to start some short work outs. I lunged her for about ten minutes this morning and she
seems to sort of understand what I am asking. However, she only wants to go counter-clockwise and she wants to lope. I can get her to come down into a trot,
but it takes a lot of effort to keep her there. Moving clock-wise is another story. She will do it at a walk, on a short lunge line and then wants to stop and
turn around. We will continue to work on it.
So, what should I do with her? I was thinking trotting her each direction for about 5 minutes (ten minutes total) every morning? Some in hand work basic ground manners/leading work? I am wanting to build some cavalletis and work her over those too. She really REALLY needs to work her butt muscles (especially her loin and croup). She is coming back nicely and has access to turn out pretty much all the time. But, I would like to work some more specific areas and start teaching her some things so once she is ready, she can go back under saddle.
I look forward to hearing from all of you rehab gurus!!
