Just made the call today - my colt (who I had hoped would be breeding quality - actually a FILLY!)...will be gelded on April 28 barring nay unforseen problems.
It's funny -I've been contemplating this for a few months now, and after looking for critiques about BB and reading through this site more, I've decided NOT to wait until the fall but to go ahead and geld. No surprise babies in the future.......especially since he tried to mount his momma yesterday when I cut through his pen in the mud!
So, no continuing these (specifically chosen) bloodlines through this boy - maybe I'll breed his mom again in a year or two for my next replacement horse (hopefully a FILLY this time!)
Yep, backyard bred, but purebred/registered, researched bloodlines and bred for replacement first, not to sell and 'make money'...or is that LOSE money??!!
At least he should make a great gelding!!!!!!!
