Ok, so my filly is now just shy of 13 months old. She has finally shed her winter woollies and no longer resembles a yak...
She has shed out to a very pretty colour, but one which I see many baths in her future! We are guessing she is a brown/ bay under all the dilution genes (cream, dun and pangare) - hence the ghost pale coat to match her owner. Her black points are more of a dark chocolate (some of which is sunburn, some is natural - same colour under the winter coat and has not yet see light of day). She has black and white mane and tail, but chocolate legs and dun markings.
She is in growth phase right now. Yes, I know she is very downhill right now. I hope she will even out, as she has been even several times in the past year. Her hooves are growing at about a ΒΌ inch in three weeks - expensive farrier bills right now!
So what do you think? I hope to use her for LD
endurance, if she excels at it we may move up to 50s (real endurance!). If not, we stick to LD, fun and hopefully
driving.
Sorry the photos are not great, I was letting her graze and I was alone. I tried, but... eh... so-so results, and much cleaning of the camera lense of horse
boogers.
She is very athletic and balanced. I rarely see her take a wrong step (though her legs are presently too long for her
and she doesn't seem to know what to do with them!)
I know, she is very ribby; we have her on an additional new feed to get her weight back on.
I also take her out to hand graze during the day while to others of her herd are locked up in drylot. (She grazes all night). She looks kinda wormy to me, even though she has been wormed, so I
plan to use a stronger one to make sure (which I plan to do today if I get my sick butt off the desk chair and drag myself outside!) I have just bought some probios to be sure to repopulate her gut, and help her get the most out of that darn expensive feed! Her
hip bones and shoulder have already gotten more cover, as you can see above, and her topline has filled out some. LOVE the Buckeye line!
I'll start you off.... she is short necked (typical of the breed), but not excessively so like some drafts. She is proportionate to her head, but shorter
than is the fashion right now. She looks kinda nesty to me. But again not excessively so. Nontheless, I see much training necessary to stay light on the
forehand.
