One of my jobs is feeding, turning out and mucking stalls at a small local barn. I worked there 4 years ago and got to know a lot of the horses, including a
kick ass little welsh pony named Whiskey. He and I had some pretty sweet adventures all around the neighborhood and I fell madly in love with him. I've had
a bad feeling about him since Friday morning, and today I saw why when I walked into the barn. He was down in his stall which isn't normal for him, so I
went in. He barely seemed to notice that I was there. I prepared his grain but he didn't even look at it, so I called his owner. She came as quick as she
could with two small kids in tow and came to the same conclusion I had come to - colic. The vet was called and by the time he showed up we managed to have him
up and walking around. He was tranqed, tubed and giving banamine which seemed to make him more comfortable but didn't help completely. We took turns
watching him until I had to leave after lunch. I just got an update on him, and he's apparently in the same condition from when I left him - it isn't
looking good. He's not young (25-30ish) but we all figured the little bugger would be around forever. He was used in a lesson last week for goodness sake!
Please, if anyone could send him some positive vibes/prayers/thoughts his way it would be much appreciated.
