Back from Florida. Well, we really got back yesterday.
It was a decent trip. It rained every day (at least once) except the last full day we were there, which was GREAT because it was 4th of July and it was GORGEOUS for fireworks that night.
Anyway, we mostly spent our time relaxing by the pool or beach and going out to eat. We tried out some food places that we don't have back here (at least nearby), but we hit some familiar ones too. We ate at Beni Hana's (Japanese Steak House) on the 3rd....OMG it was the best food I've ever had, and I'm not even a huge Japanese-food person. It was one of those where they prepare the food in front of you and do all sorts of weird things during it. We also ate at a Rainforest Cafe (at the Sawgrass Mall) which was cool. Other than that, we ate at mostly "normal" places, like TGI Friday's, a RoadHouse, Skyline Chili (for lunch), Smokey Bones (lunch again)...um drawing a blank on the rest right now, lol..I think that might be pretty much it though.
Monday night we drove to Orlando so we could hit Disney the next day. It took us about 4 hours to drive there, which really didn't feel all that long. I think we got the most rain at Disney....it rained pretty much the whole time we were there! It wasn't a downpour, but it wasn't a sprinkle either. We wore ponchoes and had 2 umbrellas, lol. And, of course, it cleared out as we were leaving. Figures!
We spent the night in Orlando again just in case it wasn't rainy the next day....if it wasn't, we were going to try Universal Studios. But alas, it was already storming when we woke up, so we decided to just go back.
Thursday afternoon we were going to rent a boat, but right when we got there, it clouded up and started looking pretty sketchy, so we decided to postpone it til the next morning. Good thing, because we had a NASTY storm not long after we left, and I would have hated being on a boat when that hit. There was a lot of close-by lightning! So we went back the next morning and it was gorgeous outside, at least long enough for our boat ride. We kept it for 2 hours and rode it up the intracoastal waterway, looking at all the ridiculously nice (and huge) houses and yachts. OMG...so many.
That's pretty much it! We spent a few nights over at my mom's (new!) fiance's parent's condo playing games. If you've never played Apples to Apples, it's FUN! Simple, but fun. They have a really nice condo right on the beach, so that's where we watched the fireworks. They set them off right near their place (which is easy considering the town of Lauderdale by the Sea is only a mile long and a half mile wide!). It was neat though because we could see lots of different fireworks displays being set off all around us.
All in all it was a good time. I was able to get through a few books. I read Water for Elephants (thanks for the suggestion!) and wound up reading My Sister's Keeper, which my mom had borrowed and read already. It was SO good that I wound up buying another of Jodi Picoult's books to start on the flight back! I love her writing.
Anyway......it feels good to be back though. I HATE unpacking and trying to get back into the normal routine, but it's nice to be back. It feels so much cooler here! I actually had to put on a sweatshirt last night when I went out to feed the horses!
I have lots of pics between my camera and my mom's....but none of them are uploaded yet...
