Canada makes a point of being multicultural, and its multiculturalism extends even to the English language. It takes some of its linguistic cues from England, some from its neighbor to the south. The Anglo-American multiculturalism is reflected even in spelling: Canadians prefer British colour but American program. Blending material from both sources, Canadians can claim that they have created a hybrid language superior to either. It's cultured like the British and brisk like the American, eh?
There are also some Canadian contributions to the English language that are used neither in Britain nor the United States. The new Canadian Oxford Dictionary includes two thousand Canadianisms, including book off (work), all-candidates meeting, Stanfields (men's underwear), and jambuster (doughnut). And then there's the Canadian eh.
