So today started off wonderful. Horsewoman1965 and Rod Cavinder came out and we all had a nice lesson. Later, Darla and I went to fill water troughs and my
favorite colt of Darla's 09 babies was breathing REALLY hard. We pulled him and momma in. I took his temp, it was 104.5! His respiration was at 82 breaths
per minute, gums were white, and was was dehydrated. (This colt was acting normal 3 hours before). I gave him 3 cc banamine, hosed him down and poured alcohol
down his topline to dissipate the heat. Temp did not go done. Respiration was still at 86. So I truck it into Darla's and we filled baggies of ice and I
gorilla taped them to his pasterns. Brought his temp down 2 degrees while we were waiting on the vet. Vet finally gets there. Poor bugger has rhodococcus
pneumonia. We cathed him, gave him some Naxil and ran a liter of fluids.
5 hours later (now) his respiration is still at 82 breaths per minute. His temp is back up to 104.1. He just got another 3 cc banamine and we have packed his pasterns and armpits in ice (yes, the bags are covered with vet wrap so as not to totally shock his system). Hopefully we can get this temp down soon. Arnold says he has a 50/50 chance of making it tonight.
So, we are doing what we can, but please send your e-prayers and e-hugs to Darla McCain and Tristan Slater Proposed (AKA Slater). Tonight, we need a miracle and you guys are so good at those. I just don't know what else I can do to keep this baby comfortable. I have done everything. The only thing left to do is wait.
