Sounds like your boy just hit his away from home threshold. My friends mare did something like that too, but we were on a 3 day/2 night stay at a friends house for a show and a poker ride the next day. She was pacing in the paddock and looking a very nervous by the end of the 3rd day, and she was a PIA in my trailer on the way home. She just reached her "away from her buddies" threshold that weekend, but was fine the next weekend at the same place for a 1 night stay. She just needs mileage, sounds like your boy may need some too.

I see no difference in doing this or 1/2 a cc of ace on the tongue.
I've tried Rescue Remedy on myself TONS of times to no avail. I like experimenting on myself (not with Ace though!!).

A long day at a show can easily blow a horse's mind if they aren't 'good travelers'. Too much new stuff, too many horses, weird noises, weird people - lots and lots going on. Chalk it up to a learning experience and rest well knowing you did right by your horse. Most schooling shows in my area charge a $3-5 Drug Testing Fee. If yours do to - then they are more than welcome to test anyone entered. Also keep in mind, even if you drug *after* your last class, you can still get pinged for it. Oddly enough, I've been drug-tested at a schooling show before. Apparently the people doing the testing were recent hires and having an educational field-trip to a horse show for practice or something and were pulling samples on anyone that won a class. Never have been tested again in over 20 years of showing, but that memory sticks out in my mind very clearly. The herbal remedies/supplements I have minimal issue with, but it's a fuzzy area. For example: I don't think a person should be pumping tubes of B-Calm or Quietex down a horse's throat at a show - but if the horse is on a regular supplement that has valarian root or another natural sedative, I don't mind so much.

Just seems to me it would be safer for you, your horse & those at the show that know what they are doing & have a horse that fits their experience......Be careful with the ace,it makes some horses nuttier than they were.Especially if you give it to them after they are worked up....
Says the person that has never shown a horse. He is correct though that Ace will NOT work if the horse is already worked up. It has to be given before the stress occurs. I think you did the right thing by the way
