I've started getting stuff for my dorm and all that, but here are a few questions anyway: -What would you recommend getting for a dorm? -Any tips for getting along with roommates? -Any other tips in general?

Don't waste your time trying to bring in Christmas lights or a lava lamp that isn't allowed. Step 2: Get your shower kit. Go to BB&B and find a plastic caddy (a small grooming box will work too) that you can put all your shower stuff in. Make sure it's as small as possible but will fit all your shower stuff. Buy cheap flip flops. You do NOT want to get in the shower with your bare feet. If you can, get either a beach towel or a full coverage bathrobe. You might have to walk up the hall to get to the shower. Step 3: Get bed stuff. Dorm beds tend to be extra long twin beds. Make sure your sheets will fit. Also, dorm beds tend to be hard and crappy, so get an eggshell foam mattress cover while you're at it. Step 4: Get storage bins. You won't have a lot of space in your dorm room, so get stackable containers that can fit in a closet or up against a wall. Get those long, shallow bins for under your bed. Whatever you can do to conserve space will be worth it. Step 5: Get a mini-fridge. Some schools allow you to "rent" them for the school year. Do it. You'll be glad you did. Brita filters are good too. That way you can always have water on hand that won't taste like ass. Step 6: Let go of your modesty. Likely you will have to share a bathroom with a bunch of other girls and more than likely there will be guys roaming the hall at all hours, even if your floor or hall only has girls rooms. You might also get a roomie who enjoys having people in the room, and if you have to change, it's either trudge down to the bathroom or figure "If you haven't seen a bra yet, here's your chance." I loved living in the dorms, and I loved moving out. It's an experience, and a good one, but only for a year. I think I might have killed someone if I had to live in the dorms for more than my freshman year.

Just establish that there is a point where you can sit in a room and not talk and not have it be awkward. Likewise, you can break silence with hilarious, random things and both laugh about it.
