THE FUGLY SONGhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-_kA9Yiz6c(My 'S' doesn't always work. I promise I'm not referring to anyone as a hore. Unless I make it clear that that is my intent.)

Like, if the horse is a dirrrttty stopper or otherwise extremely difficult, I know the rider is great. Um, this is the worst one, so don't hate me more than you already do, but I totally think any rider on a QH looking horse is a clueless newb. For example, one show I remember turning to my trainer and saying "Oh, God, this is going to be interesting" as soon as this chick on a QH-y palomino entered the ring. It WAS interesting, the horse was a saint, but it was a terrifying course, poles everywhere and the chick was RUNNING to get some of the strides (LOL, I left out nicely on one of my trips that day too, :P ). It's not all QHs either, it has to do with how the rider sits on the horse/fits the horse and the horse's conformation. Like, this chick was sort of upright, was waaaay too big for the horse, and had a helmet I didn't recognize. The horse had a QH head and, besides the palomino thing, you could tell just from it's ass that it was a QH.

There are enough decent looking and cheaper options now that I think the dominance of GPA and CO are on the decline unless they come out with something super-fantastic in the next six to eight months. GPA's Speed Air is the only helmet out there uglier than a Troxel Sport, even if you get the black-on-black. It doesn't flatter anyone. The trendy and cash-laden crowd are going after the also-ugly Antares helmet (for the brand name factor) and the folks who have crashed a $400 helmet are dialing it back to more "reasonably priced" helmets like the IRH Elite Extreme (I bought one, haha). The non-black show helmet fad seems to be on the decline too. People that already have them still use them, but the tack-stores around here don't seem to be carrying as many of the off-colors.

Agree lol or they say "well my horse just doesn't like it" yeah ok.

Is their tack cleaned and well cared for? Are their buckles polished? Are they riding in tack needing to be repaired or replaced? I don't care if it's older or not fashionable tack, but it should be well cared for and safe. Also, how is the rider dressed? Are they in clean, neat, and workman like clothing? Are their boots cared for looking? Of course they can have dirt from the day on them, but do they look like they are crusted over and never cleaned? Matching belt? That sort of stuff. It doesn't have to be fancy, but clean and presentable. Then, there is the horse - is it really groomed, or was a brush just run over it? Are there twigs and shavings in the tail? Is the mane kept up? I groom every chance I get, and I wash down with an ACV solution. I keep hair trimmed, etc. I think this says a lot about the rider's take on the activity of riding, and horsemanship in general. None of my horse friends are like this though, so obviously I don't go around acting like I have a stick up my ass.. but this thread is about preference, and this is a preference of mine. I think I'm in the minority, but from where I come from everything was immaculate and in good working condition, or you were excused to adjust yourself and your horse accordingly.
