OK here is one I have not seen before....I have this mare in for recovery (Condition Score 1.5 when she arrived) and it's been almost three weeks. I am
making great progress with the weight gain (yay!) but yesterday I noticed something rather odd and I have never seen anything like it and am looking for ideas
from anyone.
She has a small bit of white on the lower portion of her otherwise dark vulva. It's obvious from the location that this is something that either discharged, or came from urination. It looks like (for all the world) dried salt?? Thin, slightly crusty. A bit more than a "drizzle" but it does not extend down her legs-just there at the, um, exit
She has come into season exactly once since she arrived. It was normal duration and the horse got the same slightly soft stools that she had previously (Mare had boarded with me the previous year)
Here's the diet:
Orchard grass hay
Mid bloom alfalfa hay
Senior, Nutrena Compete
BOSS, flax, probiotic, oil
and Moorman's Grostrong Precise-which is a salt based vitamin/mineral sup that is suited to our forage. The only thing I can think is that for some reason, the salt in the Moorman's *might* be causing an issue?
She has no overt symptoms otherwise-temp normal, all other vitals perfect also.
I am just stumped-but, I have to say, I have not been around that many mares, so......what could it be? There are pics on my blog and recovery updates also, if you are interested in reading.
