Soo, since I got the birthday gift I wanted for graduation, I needed a new idea for a birthday gift! I'm telling my entire family to get me either
Greenhawk or feed store gift certificates or just money, and I want a new helmet from my parents. It's time to put down my Troxel sport and UPGRADE!
I've never owned a higher end helmet and I want one that suits me and also makes me look awesomely cool lmao
I ride dressage but when I'm not showing (which will be rarely, and very low level local shows) I'll probably just be schooling Susie either in or around my ring. So I want something that is not too fancy for schooling and trails but nice enough to show off at lessons and shows. I'll probably keep it in the house when it's not in use to prevent dirt/damage and get a cover also. I just measured my head with a string, it's looking like I'd take a 7 1/8" or thereabouts. My price range is around 170$, I could probably go to 200$. So I can't get the SUPER AWESOME 500-600$ ones, but definitely something better than the 30$ helmets I'm used to!
Obviously it will come down to what fits - I'll be able to try them on in the store though, so no guessing games. But I'm just looking for reviews from you guys on what you like or don't like, or have heard about these helmets.
Here are my options, straight from the Greenhawk 2009 catalog (Reach I bet you can give me some really good tips here):
Tipperary Sportage II - 90$
Pros: It comes in green, they're popular
Cons: It comes in green (I'll be too tempted to get it and I really want something black for showing), I personally dislike the look
Troxel Victory Show Helmet - 85$
Pros: It looks nice in the catalog?
Cons: It may be too showy for schooling
Troxel Grand Prix Classic Slim Profile Show Helmet - 110$
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Same as above
Troxel Legacy Gold Duratec - 77$
Pros: Looks nice and streamlined
Cons: It comes in green.. LOL
IRH Pro-Rider Gold - 120$
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Might be too showy
IRH Olympian Velveteen DFS - 75$
Pros: Looks like a cross between a hunt cap and a dressage helmet which I like
Cons: Dunno
IRH Advance Tech - 170$
Pros: I hear good things about these, and I could use all the air wicking I can get
Cons: I'm not sure if I like these brands with the stripes down the middle, but if it's a good helmet and I like it in person that doesn't matter much
IRH Elite - 175$
Pros: Oooohhh, airy
Cons: Same as above
Charles Owen JR8 - 155$
Pros: I hear this is a great brand, and this is my favourite look (from the book anyway) by far
Cons: The biggest size is 7 1/8 so if I'm a little big bigger headed I may be screwed
Sooo! Thoughts? Experiences? Warnings? Suggestions? What's fashionable and what do you guys think would suit me?
