My new mare, Trinity, has been interesting for the past two months I've had her, and she's not to be outdone by some little training quirks!
During the fancy event that I've been planning for months and is part of my internship, I get a call "Your mare is colicking, you need to be out here NOW."
Of course, instead of being 20 minutes away, with my own car and winter clothes, I've 45 minutes away, got a ride with my friend, and am all dressed up. Luckily, my room mate loves me, and let me take her car, as well as finding a ride for the other people who were depending on me.
Vet comes out in two hours, looks at her and says, "Is this a horse you would do surgery on?"
Wonderful.
Tube her with some stool softener and water, gives me some Banamine, and we wait. Of course, I'm at a partial care kind of place, where there isn't someone on property 24/7, so I've been at the barn over 48 hours at this point. I got some to bring me winter clothes and food (as well as a laptop and internet!), and I'm lucky we have a heated lounge area to sleep in and a bathroom, but damn!
She was doing better and passing some manure, then got really uncomfortable and passed some dark, thick urine.
Vet was out again, tubes her with water and mineral oil, and says again that this is the biggest impaction he's ever felt. If she doesn't shit a "pygmy goat" by tomorrow morning, we're off to OSU for surgery.
Trailer's all hitched up, and now...more waiting. Fun stuff!
Good stories are a plus!
