Well, a Ford mechanic weighed in, and now there is no way to convince my husband. But figured I needed to vent and I wanted some other answers. The basic
question was:
Can a 2009 F-150 safely haul two 1,000-pound horses eight hours in a 2,300-pound trailer? The truck's max towing capacity is 5500 pounds and the entire weight it would be hauling is 4300 pounds.
Mechanic said no. He said it is too much stress on the engine. It can safely be done for an hour or so, but no more than that. Of course, no hubs agrees.
I am supposed to go to the chiro on Friday (picking up a gal and her horse along the way to help offset my costs) and a hunter pace on Sunday (not with Buttercup). So, this has put me in a bit of a tough spot. In fact, I'm furious! Why didn't we get the 250??? I bet if I go out and buy a gooseneck this wouldn't be an issue ...
Truck:
^ just imagine me pummeling my husband in this photo. I know it isn't his fault ... but I really wish I could take the truck Sunday (and pick up that horse on Friday)!!! So I again miss out on another hunter pace. Grrr.
