I will not needlessly put myself in physical danger when "poopsie" the stallion decides to run over me at breeding time. These animals take tremendous abuse from each other that would easily kill a human, a little lesson with a chain isn't going to hurt them. I like it when a horse reminds me not to be complacent, probably has saved my life more than once. Mary Exactly.....When people stop thinking of their horses as pets & treat them just like you are the head horse in the pen,you & your horse will both lead happier lives...You because you will actually start enjoying your horse & your horse will learn it's place when you learn to quit pickin, pokin & beggin it to do the right thing & just learn to use the right equipment & some common sense to handle it.....There is no one on here that has more love & respect for horses than me as they have allowed me to never work for another man & I've spent my life doing exactly what I want to do every single day...How dose it get better than that.....

I probably also imagined the months and months it took to heal and the massive scar tissue left from the abuse. And then I imagined the retraining so the horses could be used again. Mild my ass. It is a given that any bit can become a weapon in certain hands. I don't doubt that you can put a chain bit on a well trained horse and not have a problem. It doesn't change the fact of the abuse I have personally witnessed.

Years ago I broke a dozen or so mules to ride & drive but quit because I never really thought I knew what I was doing. I do think most mules kinda need to know you can put some pain on them if ya have to as they are just flat smarter than horses.Like most bits in the wrong hands they are a weapon but I think a good mule trainer can use them & end up with a nice broke critter...

That is a walking horse gag. Big licks use them frequently.
