When it rains a lot the river floods and even though it doesn't always flood up to our house it does flood my pastures every winter. So the last few days
we've had a lot of rain and the river has been high but hasn't topped it's banks. Today was a gorgeous sunny day so I turned the horses out to
stretch their legs. Unknown to me since I really wasn't paying attention, due to all the previous rain the river DID rise and started flooding our
pastures.
When I went to bring the horses in this is what I saw. (pics are actually from last yr since it was too dark to take them tonight but it's exactly the same)
Oh shit.
So Kheara and Burnie were in the above pasture and as far as I know Burnie has never had to deal with anything like this (and was currently up at the high end of the field) and it was getting dark. I waded out to her, put a halter on and she immediately stepped into the water and followed me out. I was so proud of her!!!!! It was fairly deep and dark. Kheara followed behind us.
Now came the rest of the horses in the big field. There was a LOT of water for them to get thru and by this time it's pitch black. My husband waded out, opened the gate and without much hesitation they all came on thru. It would of looked like this if we could see.
Those above pics is the exact gate they came thru and the water was that deep. I'm just so proud of my horses and ESPECIALLY Burnie since she's only been here a couple of months and just starting to trust us. My horses rock!
