Advice please!
Because of recent board increases I have to move my horse from a cushy stall with an individual turn out paddock to a HUGE open field that she will share with a few off-season race horses, a pony and a broodmare. What is the best way to get her used to this situation?
Some back ground:
I've had my horse for about 6 months. When I got her she was
extremely pushy and had ZERO respect for humans. Through a LOT of round penning and other methods I finally have a
horse that won't run over me (as much
) and who has quit
kicking and biting at every opportunity. She is actually turning into a nice horse (slowly)! However I'm worried that when she gets into the large pasture situation she will forget everything we have been working on and
I'll never catch her again! (I'm not sure she has ever been in that large of a pasture.) She is very food
oriented, but I'm worried a bribe won't work as well since she'll have all that yummy summer grass to eat.
Not that I want to have to bribe her anyhow! On the bright side, getting her ass handed to her by the other horses will
give her an attitude adjustment for the better socially I think.
So what can I do to help us prep for this upcoming lifestyle change?
Anyone have any training or tips or tricks for me? I have a month to work this out.
Thanks so much for any input!!!![]()
