Today at work I was appreciating the fact that the few mares in the barn don't crowd me or get in my space when I am cleaning and feeding. Most of the
geldings are goofy love bugs and are velcroed to your side at all times. I like to pat/scritch the mares to show my appreciation but they just kind of stare
at me blankly.
Then I got to thinking...Ive known so many horses in my lifetime. Hundreds. Many of them mares. I have never ONCE met a lovey dovey in-your-pocket kind of mare. Ive met sweet, kind, understanding, patient mares. Ive known gentle, calm, laid back mares. But never "puppy dog" type mares. It's always been the geldings with those kinds of expressive personalities in my experience. I can't believe I've never noticed this before. Do you think the "extra" personality that some of these geldings is linked to some lingering testosterone or something? (just thinking about the high "play factor" that a stallion has)
Maybe its just my imagination...I don't know...
What's your experience?
