I have been training horses for years, but have only ever done either retrains for a local horse sanctuary, a ranch I worked at or my own so have never done any for "outside" horses.
I have been thinking of taking on a horse or two this spring/ summer for some extra cash plus i miss doing it as I love putting the first few rides on.
I just am not 100% sure how to go about it, and please forgive me if i ask any terribly obvious questions.
I am planning on gearing my "market" towards people that are just looking to get there horses going that dont want to deal with the baby sillyness. I have been doing this for awhile but Im not ready to "finish" anything for someone else, I am working on developing my own mare at the moment and would some day like to be there. I was going to mention in my add that i would be a great middle man between unbroke and a more exspensive professional trainer, to save the client a little money instead of having the pro dink around with the first 30 days or so so then the pro would get a horse ready to go.
I ride english but in my opinion basics are basics so i would be willing to start both english and western horses, they would have to be a minimum of 3. In good health, be vac and dewormed prior to training and be in acceptable body condition.
So my questions are...
1. Would a pro rather have a horse from day one? would I just be detering them from accepting a horse or would this actually be beneficial to the client and pro?
2. What would you exspect to come from say 30 days of training? (obivously will depend on where the horse started)
3. What would you be willing to pay for something like this?
4. What happens if a horse is injured in training, I dont use outrageous methods or anything but horses are horses and shit happens. (we all know they could figure out get hurt but air alone)
5. Also I would obviously have to give up my ammy status, how bad would that hurt me in the Hunter/ Jumper world? My presonal horse is a 5y/o Mare that I hoped to show pre green this summer, will it interfere?
Thanks, and feel free to let me know if i am simply way out on a limb here. And i apologise for any stupid questions.
