Mostly thinking out loud, but thought I would ask for opinions. Short back story this was one we got in starved with pneumonia, and have gotten her up on weight, and healthier.
The TW mare that I thought was bred hed her vet check today. She is not prego. But the vet did agree, she was somewhat bagged up, and loose in the back end. He said she could have been and slipped. Her ovaries were very small for this time of year was one of his comments, and possibly it could be the spring grass plus horomones now that she is in better health causing her symptoms, of fooling me, lol.
Her teeth were horrible, she does need a float (which I knew) but she was only 7 yrs old (I also thought as she had the 7 yr hook, but I was told she was 10)
Ok, so she was "off" vet noticed her one hip is more muscled than the other, possibly an old injury. She was not "lame" per say, but she did not vet sound. He said she probably has been favoring her one leg over the other causing the muscling imbalance, and it may or may not be a fixable issue. He said with adjustment, and some turn out so she gets exersize it may build back up normal, or if I start riding her she may go lame. He thinks whatever it was may have been in her pelvis, though I did notice today it looked like one hock had a slight bit of swelling, though it was so hot out all of her was hot, so I could not tell if there was heat in it. She was not sore when I poked, or flexed it.
So I have a non breeding quality mare, that may, or may not EVER be rideable. She is green broke. If she was dead broke, I know I would chance doing some work, and seeing if she would come around, as she would be perfect for leadline rides.
So I am debating on if I should just euth her, or put the money into her and try and get her fixed.... I will have to float her teeth, get a couple adjustments, probably some joint supplements, maybe hock xray, and then training.....
What would you do?
