We bought a 7 year old gelding last year that had 6 months of reining training when he was a 5 year old. We bought him for a trail horse and to maybe get into amateur, amateur reining events after a bit.
My question goes back to this: we got him cheap (I mean CHEAP) because he tore his semimembranosis/semitendinosis on his RRL while he was in training and the seller didn't think he'd be worth anything. Now, I know this is common enough in these kinds of horses and I'm just wondering how much of an effect it acutallly can have on their performance if we were to try to get into the lowest of low levels of reining (Believe me, I've got no aspirations to be a champ
). We've been conditioning him per vet instructions and he's still slightly visibly off on that leg at a trot, not as noticeable when loping. How bad is this type of tear in this sort of horse? Anybody with experience in this?
