Pics aren't the greatest. But we went out to ride these 2 geldings, Blackboard and Chomper. I really, really like Chomper. Big, beautiful gray. Very light with most of his cues but some "communication confusion" between the 2 of us because he's trained quite a bit differently than I ride these days. He's trained with primarily seat and leg cues, very little contact through the bridle. I used to ride that way, but for the last 2 years, it's been all about getting Holly "bridled." I kept trying to "talk" to the grey using the reins. For example, he pivots on the forehand just fine, but the cue is with the leg and seat. If I asked for him to step over with the reins (either shoulders or hindquarters), he was just confused. He sidepasses very well, has a great w/t/c, good stop, great back-up. Very, very nice horse.
Blackboard is a bit "heavier." Still a really nice gelding, but he's been the horse that beginners/friends get to ride, so he's not as responsive to cues. That could be fixed easily and there's not a thing wrong with him. Very laid back, very sweet guy.
I'm sort of kicking myself because in some ways, Chomper is *exactly* what I want (Blackboard would work, too!). He has great ground manners, calm under saddle, he's even done some mounted patrol type training. But I don't want to go to the time and expense of re-training him to ride the way I ride and in some ways, when he's well-trained for his style, it seems like it'd be a waste to re-do that. But I also don't want to re-train myself...again. *sigh*
Anyway, this is one of those times where I think the guy selling the horse is being very accurate in what he's offering. His geldings are definitely worth the money. Well cared for, up-to-date on vaccinations, coggins, trims, etc. He's primarily looking for a good home (he'd like Blackboard and Chomper to go together if at all possible...which is another issue for me. We simply don't have room for 2 more horses) so his price is negotiable. They've changed directions in their showing and want horses that are more suitable for cutting/reining.
