The kinda guys that are really doing the fighting and dying. They do the service and make the sacrifices. Ever see the living quarters on a submarine? Some of these people spend months on end without the luxury of privacy.Yes, you are right, homosexuals have been in the military since there were wars. But when you make it official that openly gay people can serve , what are the unintended consequences? Even in the rest of society, discreet gay people will tell you that people that have to be perpetually in your face with their political statements wears real thin after a while.See the Emmys the other night? Ever hear someone preface a statement with " as a practicing heterosexual" .Should I remind you of my sexual orientation at every opportunity? Sounds absurd, doesn't it?You are tolerated. You are accepted. Just because I'm a Christian with bib overalls and a shotgun doesn't mean I wanna beat you up ( and why doesn't your assumption it does mean that you are being ignorant and intolerant?) . Mostly I wanna mind my own business. Can we move on now?

Oh the horror!Never one time has it ever crossed my mind that she might "look" at me in "that way" or be attracted to another woman in her business. Fucking ridiculous that anyone in the military would ever be concerned about that.

OMFG, are you freaking serious?! I'm sure THAT's going through all of our armed services members' minds when they are serving over there, whether some "faggot" is checking them out or not.

Similar to, but more serious than, sexual harassment laws in the civilian workplace. So if you're serving in the military, and some other guy keeps patting your ass in the shower, there are ways to deal with that that will see to it that his behavior stops. In civilian life, women get creeped on by straight men all the damn time. We've learned how to deal with it. I can only assume that our soldiers will do the same.

Bullets are generally scarier than eyes.

Sounds absurd, doesn't it?Unfortunately, BRad, sometimes it takes a time period of "in your face political statements" before something will change. Should we need to preface what we say with a statement about our sexual orientation? Of course not. It *should be* a non-issue. But the fact is that, *heterosexuals* made homosexuality an issue first...if people were always free to practice their sexual orientation without recrimination (assuming consenting adults), it wouldn't have to be displayed on posters and in rallies. It's like when men in the workplace get all upset that women are "over reacting" to sexual innuendos. They like to say "sheesh, what's the big deal?" as long as it's not a big deal to THEM and it's in their favor. Sometimes it takes big measures to show people that they're behaving improperly.
