Various government agencies in Foshan gave about $4,000 to the trash collector who helped Wang. She has said she will be giving the money to the family of the injured girl, according to local media reports. The driver of both of the vans that struck Wang have been apprehended by police, according to the Guangzhou Daily. China has no Good Samaritan-style law, and many in the country avoid helping such strangers in need for fear they will be blamed for the accident. Last week, a bus driver who helped an elderly woman who fell ill on the bus collected contact information from four eyewitnesses in the event he was accused of harming the woman. In the past week, it was reported that a tourist from the U.S. jumped into West Lake in Hangzhou to save a suicidal woman. Many are questioning why none of the Chinese bystanders did anything to help. The case has elicited a similar torrent of outrage online.

Every horse deserves to be so highly valued! Congrats to Ruby. She's won the owner lottery:soshorses wrote:
The journey we have taken with Ruby is a long one but basically she is stage one navicular. Tiff and I both feel that it would not be right to expect her to run barrels even with the best farrier/vet care. She will breakdown somewhere else and we will end up killing her. Her life is worth more than the few dollars she may win.

Every law school in the country teaches the Kitty Genovese case to illustrate the proposition that failing to report a crime is not usually a crime itself. Something like 38 people watched Kitty Genovese get raped and murdered on a street in New York in the 1960s, and not only did no one try to help her, no one even bothered to call the police.
