What have you found out about your family?
I've just recently started looking into my (mother's) family history, and this is what I've found:
1. We have a bigamist and/or an adulterer in the family. Sailor had a wife and child in England, met a woman on the ship to Australia and had a child or two with her, went back to England and had a second child with his wife, went back to Australia and had a total of seven children with the woman from the ship. Their children believed they were married, but no certificate has turned up so far.
2. There are two books about my family in the National Library.
3. One of my ancestors had a falling out with his father that was so serious he and his wife changed their and their children's names and left the state. They never made contact with the family again, despite the father's efforts to find them. It was only through quite a few years of research (done by the author of the books in the NLA) that it was discovered their name should have been Litchfield.
4. There's a town named after the Litchfields.
ETA: Oh yeah, and this we already knew, but 5. My great-grandmother was raised by her grandparents, believing them to be her parents. When she was 20 they told her her 'eldest sister' was her biological mother.
So, what cool things have you found out?
