I agree with others that your email was a bit much. It comes off like an interrogation and quite frankly, the answer provided was appropriate. I have shown and bred (limited) and I will say that I got tons of tire kickers. I would not have necessarily been offended by your questions, but maybe in the manner they are put, especially if I had taken the time to create/pay for a website to answer most of your questions. It might have been helpful to point out that you sought the answers but were unable to find it on said website. Sad to say, as intelligent as I know you to be from this forum, it might appear you are comprehensionally challenged or to lazy to read the information provided. (JMHO)Breeders are busy people, especially ones of high energy breeds as Chessies. And your email is not the only one in the inbox. I would have probably not even replied, as bitchy as that sounds. I had 2 pups available from one litter and had hundreds of inquiries just from word of mouth and referrals from other breeders. Never even listed the litter on my site. Lots of kooks out there, believe me. I think your WOT and manner lumped you in that category. That being said, there are just as many fruit loop breeders out there too and I know some with some bad breeding practices that would have passed your scrutiny with flying color. I also know some great breeders with phenominal dogs and bloodlines who have tons of quirks and personality issues to overcome that you have to work with if you want one of their pups. It is their call. But it is also your choice. Very few good breeders need you to provide a home, they will have waiting lists and you pay the price and dance to their tune. Clearly, this breeder is not a fit for you and I hope you find one the pup of your dreams.

I would be very put off, both by the excessive amount of personal information you included and the laundry list of questions. I think the response the breeder gave you was quite nice. It wasn't rude, aside from the crack about passing your exam, and, he put you in touch with a breeder that he thought would be more your kind of person. I certainly wouldn't take his response to indicate that he is a bad breeder or that he would have failed your "test." I would interpret it to mean simply that his interpretation of your e-mail was that you would be a difficult client and he doesn't need the headache.

There are ways of asking these sorts of questions in a conversational tone in a letter. It may make the letter just a bit longer but it won't appear quite so brash. The fact that you have asked questions that have already been answered on their site can also appear as if you're sending a form letter and have not taken the time to actually look at what they offer. This can sometimes make a breeder less interested in taking the time to answer your questions. They figure if you don't want to take the time to read the information on their site then they're probably not going to want to take time out of their day when it's probably unlikely you'll purchase from them anyway. Though this isn't always the case, my past experiences have shown me that the ones that are most demanding of your time are usually the least prepared to actually purchase a puppy. I always answered the questions, but I found it amusing that I was right 90% of the time with that theory. Then of course there is the possibility that you are not at all a potential puppy buyer but instead someone who is interested in causing trouble. Long lists of questions like this are sometimes sent out by anti-breeding types to use as fodder for their arguments. I've recently received a few of these myself and I haven't bred a litter in almost 6 years! That does tend to make breeders a bit gun shy. Of course they could just be crappy breeders. Oops litters are not necessarily an indication of this however. Oops litters do sometimes happen and methods of aborting unwanted pups from a bitch you plan to use for the breeding in the future can compromise future breeding potential. I admit I had one oops litter and boy was I embarrassed about it, but I was honest about the mistake......many other breeders are not and just list it as a planned breeding and tell no one about the mistake.
