You got it!Now try to convince anyone else.Good luck. So, DDR, how do you feel about all the other "personal choices" that people should/could have? Do you wear your seat belt? Wear a helmet on a motorcycle? Use drugs? Drink excessively? Ideally, I would say that we should all have COMPLETE personal freedom and choices. As in, if you want to do drugs, fine. I don't care...as long as you keep it in your own home and don't impact me or mine in any way...as in, not drinking and driving, or using public assistance because you stay so shit-faced that you can't work. This applies to religion (I don't care if you worship a shoe as long as you don't try to put it on me and mine), sexuality (as long as it's with other consenting adults and again), and anything else. But as soon as YOUR decisions start impacting my life, then yes, I do have some sort of say in what you do or don't do because again, we're living in the same society.ddranch wrote:I would also agree to this if you could get unwed mothers and obese people from driving up health care cost. So because we can't get all obese people to lose weight or stop all unmarried girls from getting pregnant, then we should ignore the things we can control? What about smokers? What about those "skinny" people who don't exercise and eat horrible foods so they have heart attacks at an early age?Again, it can't be an "all or nothing" situation. We can't take away all personal rights for the good of society. But there ARE compromises that can be made and I honestly don't see how wearing a helmet in certain situations is such a hardship.

Professionals at that level still get head injuries, you know. Imagine that. Now post an equal number of vids of grand prix showjumpers and eventers - all wearing helmets. Or jockeys, sulky drivers, CDE drivers etc. You are choosing to ignore what virtually everyone has said - not that I am surprised. You and Linda Parelli are right and everyone else is wrong. So what level of PNH instructor are you again? And when you can ride as well as any of the riders you have posted, get back to me.

I took a terrible tumble at a local "A" rated show. My horse refused the second jump of a line (the oxer), which normally I would have stayed on for, but he stopped *really* dirty. He lifted his front feet off the ground like he was going to go, I rose up to meet him and stay out of his way, and he SLAMMED back down, dropped his left shoulder and spun right with everything he had... I tumbled ass over teakettle and ended up breaking the back pole of the oxer with my body. The force of his stop literally flung me through the air. I landed ass first but then my head hit, bounced, and I was knocked unconscious (messed myself... so embarrassing). I had to be taken out in ambulance on a stretcher. I had a terrible concussion, a broken arm (from where the pole broke and whizzed up to whack it) and some serious ass-kicking bruising... But because of my helmet, I am not a vegetable nor brain dead. It was a HORRIBLE fall and people who saw it REMEMBER it even today. When I was in the hospital the words "Horse" and "Accident" were spoken in very negative tones. Those ER nurses see accidents involving horses ALL THE TIME. We have to remember that these are animals and they are unpredictable. Period. Please wear your helmet EVERY TIME you ride. I don't care if you're the best rider in the universe - freak accidents happen and people can get seriously hurt if they're not taking the steps to protect yourself. I compare it to driving a car and putting on your seatbelt. Maybe you'll NEVER EVER need it, but the one time that you do, you'll be grateful.
