Which do you prefer?
I've watched a few episodes of both series, and right now they're about equal for me. I like each for different reasons. When I first saw SW: Texas, I thought they were using the same character types, but now that I have familiarized myself with the characters, I realize that they are markedly different from the original characters. The Smiths, "The Rangers", were my original favorites of the Texan clan, but now that my mind is toying with the idea that Victor, "The Outsider", roughly reminds me of my Uncle, I'm more interested in his persona at the moment. Lesa Lewis is my least favorite, and I don't think she adds anything beneficial to the cast. Dave is definitely my favorite of the classic SW.
I think it's easy to dismiss a spin off if you view it as a copy, for as they say, a copy is never as good as the original. However, if you separate the Texas version from the classic in your mind, I think it is much easier to appreciate.
