If it had not been left in the arena, it would have been hanging on a stall in a still very public area. There are also others who have my permission to use my things.I realize I should not have left it out - I just feel hiding it and not saying a word to ME is childish and immature. It happens that other things get left out at times, including her things.

I know that most people don't appreciate random items draped over arena fences, and a quarter sheet thusly left out would probably be put away. She may have heard you were looking for it, and rather than deal with what she saw as YOUR petty bullshit, simply put it back where you'd be sure to find it. Regardless, if you're that upset about it, you need to say something. Right now you're only guessing about the motivations of others and working yourself up into an equally petty snit about it. Either be happy it was returned and move on, or bring it up to the BM (politely) that you'd appreciate it if she could put the odd item you leave out (assuming it is the odd item and not a habit) either in your locker or somewhere safe and alert you as to where it is.

The barn manager should have just asked hey is this yours? Then the OP could have said "yes, thank you! I'm sorry I left it out by mistake". (without blaming the borrower) The barn manager had a sum of three days to ask who's it was. Could have just put it back without the passive aggressive bullshit she spouted. Now as far as barns go. That manager is certainly not grown up enough to handle a barn full of clients.

If I found something at out yard and didn't know who it belonged to, and neither did anyone else I asked, I would put it away somewhere safe and out of the way until the owner could be identified. It might even slip my mind to ask about it - I have other things to think about. If you made a fuss about it being moved, it may be they decided they couldn't be bothered to explain that or were afraid you'd kick off about it, so just put it back for you.

Be thankful I got it back? It's sounds like you need a better barn or have had some bad clients/places you board your horse at. Just because it's left out does not mean it doesn't have an owner.

If I leave anything out I get to go search 10 acres of sheep pasture because the dogs usually find it and drag it off before I can put it away, lol. I don't know which is better, I can't actually *ask* the dogs where they took my shit
