buy backs - right of first refusal agreements
How do you feel about them?
Do you sell your horses with/without one?
And to add - We do sell horses will them. Some we don't. Some we guarentee to be what we say they are, some we don't.
Depends mostly on the horse and our circumstances at the time. If/when someone does call back that they need to rehome a horse we will help them to do so or buy it back if we have room/feed/finances to cover it.
We sold a mare 6 years ago. Excellent home, etc, etc, etc. With a buy-back. Triple registered, palomino. Kept in contact with the new owners. Kept track of where the horse was for the last 6 years. Was at an auction back in early december 2011. Guess what was hauled in and ran through the sale? Same mare that was sold with a buy-back, all her paperwork in order. Still registered to me. Needless to say she is now back in my yard and will be here for a very long time.
Story we got on it was he had a falling out with the people where he was keeping the horses and had to get rid of them. NOW.
Never called us, never said a word. We ended up picking up 4 of the 6 he sent in. The meat man got the other 2.
And her repurchase price to us was considerably less that what he paid for her. Maybe 2% of what she sold for.
